The Walking Dead: Season Two Episode 5 – No Going Back (PC) Review

Madness finally takes over in the season two finale.

We’re finally here. All roads lead to this. The final episode of The Walking Dead: Season Two. Many have suffered, some have died, and it all comes back after a rather big cliffhanger from episode four. Let’s see how well it goes out.

For those that have played the fourth episode, you know things were left in a pretty crazy turn of events, and it all gets resolved in a matter of ten minutes in the first episode. Now, dealing with the aftermath, Clem and company (who’s left living at least) have to find shelter from the coming snow.

Platforms: PS3, 360, PC, iOS, Vita
MSRP: $24.99 for the entire season
Price I’d pay: $24.99
Length: 1 ½ hours

It’s a rather somber final episode, with not only many tragedies, but also one of the most difficult choices I have had to make in the series so far. Things come to a head when members of the group begin to fall into madness and Clem must decide who she will side with. There’s no pleasing everyone this time around.

This episode still has that autopilot feel to it, but it does offer up the most choices I have seen so far in season two. There were really only about three times in the hour and a half long episode I actually controlled Clementine, but with the amount of decision making I was doing, it at least kept me preoccupied.

What will your Clementine be like?

I enjoyed this episode more than the last, and this one was full of rather tragic moments and surprises. Like I’ve said before, players can’t save everyone, and even if I tried my damnedest, they still ended up dead. It feels more like a ride that deviates but always comes back around to the starting point at the end. Still, it’s a pretty good ride.

The thing that has really improved over the entire series is the stability and bug fixes. In the past three episodes, I never once encountered an audio glitch or graphical bug, which the first season and first episode of this season had. It seems that Telltale has finally got most of the bugs out of the system.

Of course, it’s hard to even talk about each episode without going deep into spoilers and I don’t want to do that because season two had some pretty great moments. This final episode ends on one of those notes that you knew it was eventually coming, but it had to be done kind of things. It’s a rough one to play through, but seeing how it ends is essential. Of course, Telltale isn’t stopping there. There’s even more room for a season three if they want, and I’m sure it will happen.

For the entire season, it’s a pretty crazy ride. It had some truly gut-wrenching moments, and it all ends with a pretty depressing conclusion, but that’s The Walking Dead. The apocalypse isn’t fun, and this game series has pounded that into my mind multiple times. If you’ve played the previous episodes in this season, yes, you really should buy this final episode. If you’re still holding out for season two, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It’s a tragic, surprising and entertaining ride.
