Come for the story, stay for the high score.
Twin stick shooters have become quite popular over the last 10 years. Geometry wars really set the scene on fire back when it originally launched. Tachyon Project looks very similar in more ways than one, but does it do anything different from the rest?
Games in the genre, revolve around a few key basic functions. One stick to move, the other stick to shoot. As players move and glide past these enemies, trying to take out as many as possible, racking up a high score in the goal of most of these games.

How long to beat: Three hours
In Tachyon, players are trying to remain alive as a timer constantly counts down, shoot more enemies and the timer gets a few more precious seconds. Enemies defeated drop points, and eventually as players progress can open up new abilities like freezing, or faster movement.
This is a genre that has been around the block, but Tachyon won’t do too much different then players are used to. It does have a story mode that is interesting tale of hackers, presented in drawn panels with voice overs. It’s unique and sets the game apart and gives the actions a backstory. Granted players usually don’t come to the genre for the story, it’s all about the action and besting another score.
If you loved Geometry Wars and need something very similar yet a little different, Tachyon Project is something you’d definitely be interested in. I’ll admit, I felt the visuals along with the soundtrack came a little too close for my liking, where I almost had to ask myself “what game am I playing again?”
Tachyon Project seems to take a lot of inspiration from Geometry Wars but puts its own spin on things. Taking cues from one of the best twin stick shooters ever made, isn’t a bad thing in the slightest.
