Wreckless The Yakuza Missions

Coming off over a week of downtime, due mostly to work and personal issues ZTGD is back. Tonight we bring you a review of Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions for the XBox. Does anyone remember a game called Felony 11-79? Or even more recently Super Runabout? If you do then you are truly hardcore as these are two very underrated games IMO. Bunkasha is now giving us a similar experience on the XBox in the form of Wreckless: TYM. So does it match the caliber of other XBox titles or fall short of the mark?

First let’s dissect the game’s story. You play two scenarios in this game, the first has you playing the role of two female cops, very reminiscent of a certain anime pair….ahem. In this scenario you are trying to take down the Yakuza at any cost because they spilt your pudding…k. On the other side of the story you play a pair of spies that are determined to find out everything they can about the Yakuza and cause some damage along the way to their operation. Sounds deep eh? Well don’t get too excited it is mostly comical cut scenes the real meat and potatoes of this game is in the game play.

If you remember the two games I mentioned in the opening paragraph you know what to expect in Wreckless. Driving a car at dangerous speeds through a highly populated city destroying thousands of dollars in damages along the way. Sure it sounds like a blast but it does tend to get repetitive unless you mix it up a little. Wreckless does this very well actually, giving you tasks ranging from destroying Yakuza cars within the time limit to taking pictures of a thug to gain evidence. Nice variety comes at a price though.

The difficulty in this game is unbearable. You spend so much time on each mission only to fail and have to start all over. You lose by a split second and have no way of recovering all your hard work, sure I know what you are thinking. This is what games are all about, well this is true. The problem with Wreckless is that the missions are sometimes damn near impossible. I do not mean very hard I seriously mean “impossible” this game, in blunt terms, IS FUCKING DIFFICULT!. You will spend a good deal of time yelling at the screen and asking WTF?!? I cannot do that in the time it gives me!

I know this is a small problem but it really wears on a game this shallow in the game play department. To mention the good things about Wreckless is easy. The game is gorgeous, probably one of the best looking games of all time. Real time reflections, lighting that will knock your socks off, and the detail of the cities is amazing. You can use this title to show off what the XBox can do graphically and this baby isn’t even breaking a sweat!

Overall this game is a rental at best, give it a shot and if the difficulty doesn’t scare you off give it the old purchase routine. If you are not a fan of Felony 11-79or Super Runabout then do not even bother as this game mimics it in several ways. If you have never played the latter then give it a shot, ya might grow to love this game, this ZT out for now!
