Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2001

Yahoo, since we do not have a sports editor ZT gets to review all of the damn sports games. Yipee freakin’ yay, as you can tell I am not a huge fan of sports titles. Some are good but most are re-hashes and tend to get monotonous. Anyways golf has always been one I could stand. Hot Shots Golf was the shit, so how is Tiger’s first appearance on PS2?

It is not a landmark in this dept. but it does have some nice features. The character models are pretty good and the courses are stunning. There are some frame rate issues and some of the textures are pretty bland. Being a golf game there isn’t much to look at except maybe Tiger himself…whoopie!!

The commentary is quite accurate. The announcer gets really quiet when it is a tough shot and his calls are usually dead on. The music cracks me up, it reminds me of some shit I heard in an elevator last week. Golf doesn’t require a lot of sound so I can say that this game pulls it off quite nicely.

This is a twist from what I am used too. Using the analog stick to hit the ball took a few tries to perfect. Once I got it down though I quite prefer it. It gives you more sense of accuracy. The amount of options before the put are amazing. You can zoom, rotate, change clubs, practice swing, among many other things. Overall great gameplay.

Are you a golf fanatic? Are you fond of Tiger Woods? Then buy this game, otherwise I recommend a weekend rent at best. Stellar PS2 titles are becoming hard to find so perhaps Sony should invest in Blockbuster Video hehe…ZT OUT!
