NBA Live 2001

EA Sports, the same game again! That is pretty much the scenario here, another year another Live. I have never been a fan of Live so this game didn’t do a whole lot for me. It is mostly visually impressive. So let us find out a lil’ about EA’s franchise this year on PS2.

The character models are excellent. Great facial details and the animation is astounding. The main probs are in the frame rate and some weird glitch that causes the screen to split sometimes. You gotta see it to understand. The reflections in the court floor are amazing, but if the floor had that much wax on it, you sure as hell couldn’t stand on it let alone run.

The commentary is pretty decent. The announcers keep up with the game most of the time. The music IMO sucks, of course I don’t get into that style of R&B so I can see why I don’t like it.

Did you play Live 2000 or 99 or 98 or 97…and so on and so on…same gameplay. The only difference is the button layout, I am not impressed. There are a few new moves and such, but it still feels like Live and that turns me off.

If you are gonna buy a PS2 basketball game this is not the one. Get ESPN and be happy, neither one is supreme, but ESPN is much better than this. I hope Sega Sports brings us NBA 2K2 next year.
