Moto GP

Have you ever grazed the side of black asphalt at almost 200 MPH in skin tight clothing just enough so that you can feel the heat from the burning road scathing your leg? I didn’t think so, well if you want the next best thing then grab your helmets and a copy of Moto GP for the XBox and prepare for the fastest ride of your life! Moto GP came out at a time that no one expected and amazed a few choice people just enough to get a small buzz going. I admit that when I first saw it my first thought was hey, they ported the PS2 version and THQ published it?? Much to my surprise this game was so much more…let’s find out why.

The first thing that caught my attention was the stellar visuals. The first race was presented with was a cold wet day, the track was glimmering with the freshly fallen raindrops and the real time reflections were screaming “look at me!”. That was enough to suck me in long enough to keep playing, then once the race started the small touches made it all worthwhile! Watching the rain clutter on my face mask as I turned the next corner directly behind the guy in front of me. The smooth frame rate never dropped a beat even with several riders on the screen simultaneously. Nothing was going to stop this game from being beautiful and that was evident.

Now with so many visual flattery what was up with the sound, well the standard music was ok but my next question was, “does this game have custom soundtracks?” Well much to my happiness it did. Racing at 200 MPH while blaring some Unwritten Law is definitely my cup of Jolt! In addition to having my own music whilst playing I am also treated to some good sound effects, the tires screeching, the engines humming, and the sound of the atmosphere is almost enough to make you cry! The only complaint is that the bikes are a bit on the quiet side when turning a corner at such amazing speeds.

OK now the most important aspect of course is what makes this game stand out from the rest of the pack? Well the visuals and the sound are enough to keep this game as a show off piece but what made me almost jump with joy was that this game actually plays very well! Unlike Namco’s die hard simulation of the same name this game is actually forgiving and allows for different styles of players to enjoy this fast ass sport! The controls are not too sim and not too arcade they fall in a great median for anyone who enjoys racing games to enjoy it and at the same time makes it challenging for veterans.

Well I am sure by the little award at the right you can guess that I suggest you purchase this one if you own an XBox. Of course this is one helluva game that everyone needs in their collection. Even if you are not a fan of the sport, which BTW I am not, you can still have a great time playing this massively fun and gorgeously rendered…hark! racing game.
