If you hadn’t guessed from the title, Invaders World Tour is a Space Invaders rip-off and as such makes it a bit difficult to review as you already know what Space Invaders is like.

You take control of a little space craft which moves horizontally across the bottom of the screen. The idea of the game is destroy wave after wave of attacking aliens which slowly edge there way down the screen. All of the things that you know and love about SI are here; UFO’s that periodically move across the top of the screen, enemies that move faster as you kill them off and shields that only protect you for so long. There are power ups in here though; by shooting randomly dropped icons you can give your ship a little added boost.

Controlling your craft can be done one of two ways; either by tilting the iPad left or right or by using a vertical scroll bar on the left side of the screen. Unfortunately neither way is ideal. The tilt option is far too difficult to be precise and the scroll bar needs getting used to as it is set vertically on the screen. In my opinion the scroll bar is the better of the two, as you can get used to it after a while. To fire your weapons you simply tap the screen.

The game does look very nice. Crisp, colourful graphics makes it easy to see when the aliens are firing and the sounds are pretty retro. There is also an option to add your own sounds through a system called vBox.

If you are looking for something like Space Invaders, but that isn’t Space Invaders then look no further. But seeing as SI is already on the App Store you may want to go for that. This is by no means a bad game, just a completely unoriginal one.
