Prehistoric Isle Review

Take out some dinosaurs in this PlayStation Mini.

Prehistoric Isle, a new mini for the PS3 and PSP brought to us by the wonderful SNK, is actually not a bad little title to spend some time playing.

You play as a fighter pilot in the 1930s tasked with traveling to a remote island in the Bermuda Triangle. This is no ordinary island. It’s full of dinosaurs, cavemen, and other prehistoric monsters that are hell-bent on taking your little fighter plane down.

The game features single player and local co-op, and is a relatively straightforward, side scrolling shooter mixed with bullet hell mechanics. You can earn upgrades from killing enemies. These upgrades can boost your attack power, give you a new weapon, like the bomb drop and increase your speed and maneuvering.

At the end of each stage, there is a boss that you must take out. In these fights, you must learn the boss’ patterns and dodge its attacks, all the while chipping away its health bar. The great thing is, you can always “pump more quarters” into the game for more continues. The game is not particularly long, but for what it is, it’s still a fun little game.

The game has some decent looking visuals. It is very colorful, and sometimes, the game play can get rather hectic with all the enemies on the screen. Also, I’m glad you can get infinite continues. I don’t see how anyone could beat some of those bosses in only three lives.

For $2.99, you and a buddy can get a good 30 to 45 minutes out of it and, truth be told, you will have a pretty good time with it. For players on the go, loading this onto your PSP will give you some decent play time in spurts. I’d recommend dropping the money on it.
