PlayStation: From A to Z – The Letter “I”

The From A to Z series lets our editors go back and take a look at games from past generations that are classics, overlooked gems, or just titles they remember fondly. The idea behind this is to pick five games from each letter of the alphabet, once a week to showcase. This delivers 26 weeks and 130 games to talk about. Hopefully it sparks some conversation, and of course plenty of memories.

Our first series will focus on Sony’s first entry into the console business, the PlayStation.

Let’s continue with the letter “I”.

incrediblecrisis

Incredible Crisis

The PSOne spawned titles that will likely never be seen again because of their ridiculous nature. Incredible Crisis is one of those titles. This insanely fast-paced title comes straight out of Japan and simply has to be seen to be believed.

intelligentqube

Intelligent Qube

Puzzle games are not usually that memorable to me, unless they are as unique and addictive as Intelligent Qube. There has never been anything like this title, well except for its lesser-known PS2 sequel, but I remember spending countless hours getting crushed by blocks and loving it.

inthehunt

In The Hunt

There are a ton of great shooters on the PSOne, as well as some hidden gems. In The Hunt is a perfect definition of the latter. From the generic cover to the lame title, this game doesn’t look nearly as awesome on the surface as it truly is.

ironandblood

Iron & Blood

This is another game that makes my list even though it is not very good. I remember playing countless hours of this because I loved fighting games, not because it was actually fun. I still remember one of the characters exclaiming they were going to make a sandwich…it was that memorable.

ironmanxomanowar

Iron Man X-O Manowar

There will likely never be another game with X-O Manowar in the title, so I included it on this list. It isn’t the greatest side-scrolling action game, but for some reason this generic licensed title sticks in my brain. Long before Robert Downey Jr. as well.

Tune in next week for the next collection of titles.
