PlayStation: From A to Z – The Letter “H”

The From A to Z series lets our editors go back and take a look at games from past generations that are classics, overlooked gems, or just titles they remember fondly. The idea behind this is to pick five games from each letter of the alphabet, once a week to showcase. This delivers 26 weeks and 130 games to talk about. Hopefully it sparks some conversation, and of course plenty of memories.

Our first series will focus on Sony’s first entry into the console business, the PlayStation.

Let’s continue with the letter “H”.

heartofdarkness

Heart of Darkness

This side-scrolling adventure title was very reminiscent of classics in the genre, and even felt at home next to the Oddworld games. However, it is best known for it’s gruesome death animations performed on the main character.

hercsadventures

Herc’s Adventures

Another LucasArts title that is somehow amazing. This action title just oozed personality and fun when it was released. Hardly anyone played it, even less remember it, but if you own a PSOne, it is definitely a title not to miss.

hexen

Hexen

I loved the FPS genre in the Doom days, and one of the lesser-known titles Hexen is still one of my favorites. Sure there are better versions than the PSOne iteration, but regardless of where you played it, this game has a style that is still unmatched to this day.

hotshotsgolf

Hot Shots Golf

This used to be a household name for PlayStation, but has sadly been pushed to the wayside over the years. This is still one of the best golf game series around, and the original still shines. A must play for anyone with Sony’s original console.

hydrothunder

Hydro Thunder

Any excuse to mention Hydro Thunder is a good one. While not the best version, the PSOne iteration is still bundles of fun, and nothing has matched it to this day. Not even the pseudo-sequel released on Xbox 360. This is classic arcade racing.

Tune in next week for the next collection of titles.
