The From A to Z series lets our editors go back and take a look at games from past generations that are classics, overlooked gems, or just titles they remember fondly. The idea behind this is to pick five games from each letter of the alphabet, once a week to showcase. This delivers 26 weeks and 130 games to talk about. Hopefully it sparks some conversation, and of course plenty of memories.
Our second series will focus on Sony’s sophomore entry into the console business, the PlayStation 2.
Let’s continue with the letters “U and V”.
Ultimate Spider-Man
I remember the art style the most, but going back and looking at it, the game play was really solid too. Strange how two Spider-Man games show up on this list. They used to be really good. This was most certainly one of them.
Urban Chaos: Riot Response
I’m sure you all have played the Batman: Arkham games, right? You know they were made by Rocksteady Studios. Well, did you know that before taking over the Batman games, Rocksteady made a badass FPS featuring a super solider taking on gang members in a city setting? You do now. Play this game.
Viewtiful Joe
A Capcom modern classic, this stylish beat ‘em up had some great looks, fun boss fights, and really interesting mechanics. Set in a movie form, Joe could transform into a superhero and manipulate the movie that he was in. It was one game that I hope Capcom revitalizes in the future.
Virtua Fighter 4
The one and only Viruta Fighter I have ever played. This was during the same time I was played other 3D fighters with my friends. It never grabbed me as much as Soul Caliber or even Tekken, but we did play a ton of it back in the 2000’s.
