PlayStation 2: From A to Z – The Letter “J”

The From A to Z series lets our editors go back and take a look at games from past generations that are classics, overlooked gems, or just titles they remember fondly. The idea behind this is to pick five games from each letter of the alphabet, once a week to showcase. This delivers 26 weeks and 130 games to talk about. Hopefully it sparks some conversation, and of course plenty of memories.

Our second series will focus on Sony’s sophomore entry into the console business, the PlayStation 2.

Let’s continue with the letter “J”.

Jade Cocoon 2

I played the crap out of the first game, and remember being rather excited for the sequel when it was announced for the new PS2. Utilizing a very interesting battle mechanic, this game had players using different strategies and affinities to succeed in battle using all kinds of beasts and monsters.

jakanddaxter

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

One of my favorite PS2 games, Jak and Daxter was my “buddy platformer” game at the time. I 100% completed this game and while Jak 2 was great, it will never beat out the fun I had with the original game. A must own for any PS2 owner.

James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing

While Goldeneye is my favorite James Bond game, Everything or Nothing is a close second. Especially considering how the quality of 007 games went downhill after the N64 classic. This one felt closer to an actual movie than other games had tried, and it controlled rather well for a 3rd person shooter on the PS2. For a time, that was actually a difficult feat.

justiceleagueheroes

Justice League Heroes

While I never played this game when it first came out, I did finally play through the entire game for my game club podcast Phoenix Down. Developed by Snowblind Studios, the same people that brought us Champions of Norrath and Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, this DC Comic action RPG was a lot of fun and told a pretty decent story. For our full podcast discussing the game, check out Phoenix Down.

Tune in next week for the next collection of titles.
