Jetpack Joyride Boldly Blasting Off with New Update (Hands On)

When I swung by the Halfbrick booth at PAX, I had the opportunity to get my hands on a big, upcoming update to iOS darling Jetpack Joyride. The simple to play/hard to master title is getting a big overhaul, giving new players a reason to jump in and returning players a chance to try something new.

In addition to the clothing, jetpacks and vehicle modifications (all cosmetic), players will be able to unlock gadgets that can help them accomplish the new challenges. Two of the 15 different modifiers can be equipped at any time, and are purchased with coins. They appear in five tiers of three each, and the only way to unlock new tiers is to purchase two of the previous level’s enhancements.

Rhymes that keep their secrets will unfold behind the clouds.

These change up the gameplay by giving you extra distance after death, a heads up when vehicle pickups are coming and even exploding coin pigs. By mixing and matching, you’ll be able to more easily rack up stars from completing challenges. These include flying a certain distance in a given vehicle, flying close to shock barriers, collecting a target number of coins and more.

For fans of mobile gaming, Jetpack Joyride has already been a great investment. It’s only going to get better when the new features roll out at the end of April.
